Before and After Cystoscopy

Cystoscopy is the examination of the urethra and bladder from the inside with a thin camera; it requires no incision. Diagnostic flexible cystoscopy is usually performed as an outpatient procedure with a numbing gel, and most patients return to their daily activities the same day. Mild burning and pink urine may occur for a few days afterwards.

Before and After RIRS and URS: Patient Guide

RIRS and URS are procedures in which a stone in the kidney or ureter is broken up with a laser through a thin endoscope passed along the urinary tract, without any incision in the skin. This guide summarises preparation, the symptoms to expect in the first days and care at home. If a double-J stent has been placed, it is especially important not to forget its removal date.

Circumcision Aftercare

Circumcision is a surgical procedure in which the foreskin is removed to an appropriate extent, and most patients go home the same day. Swelling, bruising and a yellowish-white, moist layer on the head of the penis are normal in the first days. Keeping the wound clean, using the recommended ointment regularly and knowing the warning signs support healing.

PCNL Aftercare at Home

PCNL is an operation in which large kidney stones are broken up and removed through a small channel made in the back. In the first weeks after discharge, keeping the tube site clean and dry, drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding heavy lifting support recovery. If a double-J stent has been placed, it is important not to forget its removal date.

Preparing for a Prostate Biopsy

A prostate biopsy is the removal of small tissue samples from the prostate with fine needles when a raised PSA, an examination finding or a suspicious area on MRI is found. The biopsy can be taken through the skin between the anus and the scrotum (transperineal) or through the back passage (transrectal). This guide summarises preparation, the symptoms to expect afterwards and when to seek help immediately.

TURP and HoLEP Aftercare at Home

TURP and HoLEP are operations in which enlarged prostate tissue is removed through the urethra, without any incision in the skin. In the first weeks after discharge, intermittent blood in the urine, burning and passing urine often are normal; drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding constipation and straining support recovery. At your follow-up visit the pathology result and your urine flow are assessed.
